Hi folks, I've got a great model 1860 Spencer infantry rifle that I'm getting ready to sell, and I'm wondering how I might find details about this particular gun's serial number. More than 50000 Spencer Carbines were manufactured by the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company of Boston, Massachusetts, from 1863-65. Introduced in 1863 it eventually surpassed all other weapons as the primary weapon of the Federal cavalry. The Spencer Carbine was the outstanding cavalry carbine of the Civil War. Is there any info on dates of issue and units? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The first is a Smith carbine serial number 3891 and the second is a Spencer carbine model 1860 serial number 27195. The rifle is all original and is an absolutely superb piece. The carbine also features a 22' round heavy barrel showing the original brown finish in very good condition. Features a lowered silver blade front sight and adjustable rear sight graduated to 800 yards. Exceedingly rare original Spencer Repeating Rifle Model 1860 Saddle Ring Carbine used by Union Cavalry during the U.S.
